Baja Elegance

Tomorrow is the official first day release of the new 2009-2010 Australian Stampin’ Up! catalogue and I’m bursting at the seams… I can’t wait to show you all the new cards I’ve made using brand new products.

If you’re wondering what to buy first from your new Stampin’ Up! catalogue then ponder one of the first stamp sets that jumped out at me.  Upsy Daisy, so elegant, so versatile.

upsy-daisy

I kept this card simple and the colours muted to show off the gorgeous image.  The card came together so quickly I barely had to think about what I was doing once I decided on which colours I was using.  To make this card I stamped the silhouette flowers with one of the new Stampin’ Up! In Colors, Baja Breeze, onto Very Vanilla cardstock then tied some Kraft taffeta ribbon around it.  I then mounted this piece onto some Baja Breeze cardstock and then onto Naturals Ivory cardstock.  The sentiment is from the same stamp set, Upsy Daisy, and was also stamped onto Very Vanilla cardstock and then sponged around the edges.  A tiny clear rhinestone brad was added for some interest and the sentiment was mounted using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Some paper piercing was done down the side to balance out the card and add some extra interest.

Hope you liked my first card using Upsy Daisy.  Actually it’s not my first really as I’ve already made a card for a magazine using this stamp set with bright colours but that’ll take a few months to come out.

And if you’re now pining for a new Stampin’ Up! catalogue, email me at angelasargeant@gmail.com to receive your own copy.

Yes I do Scrapbook!

I don’t usually upload my scrapbooking on my blog, not sure why, maybe because photographing it is a bit of a pain but I’ll try to do some more.  For those of you who are cardmakers, maybe an element on the scrapbook page or even just the colour combination will be of inspiration to you.  So here’s a page with two of my favourite photos.

This is my husband and twin boys… aren’t the three of them so cute? :D

The layout was done using Stampin’ Up!’s Round Up Simply Scrappin’ Kit (hurry! only two more days to order this before it retires).  So I used the Sage Shadow textured cardstock for the base of my layout and I stamped the Sanded background stamp randomly over the cardstock using Sage Shadow ink to give it some extra interest.  The border at the bottom is from the Scrappin’ Kit, as are all the other embellishments except for the chipboard.  The chipboard is from “On Board Lots of Letters” and I’ve simply sponged the letters with some Really Rust ink.  The right hand side of the layout has paper piercing down it as I felt it was a bit empty and wanted to add something without adding ‘weight’.

Anyway, that’s it.  Two special photos captured and now safe in my scrapbook for future generations to share.  Hope you like it and please feel free to email me if you have any questions – of course I always love to read your comments too.;)

A bit of Australiana

I must admit that I rarely make “Australian” greeting cards but that’s not because I don’t want to but because I am very fussy with my taste of Australian rubber stamps.  Finally I have found some Australian stamps with images that I really love.  And here’s my card:

This is one of those cards where I kept adding stuff to it then kept taking it off again as everything looked to busy.  In the end all the card is simple but allows the image to take the centre stage.  Also, having used textured cardstock as part of the base of the card has added that little bit extra so that the card doesn’t look overly plain.  Hmmm, sometimes I wonder if I over analyse my cards….

The image I’ve used here is a Gum Blossom from the new Stampin’ Up! Idea Book & Catalogue which will be released 1st April here in Australia.  For my overseas readers, a Gum Blossom is a native Australian flower.  The image was stamped in StazOn ink onto watercolour paper and then watercoloured with watercolour crayons.  I took great delight in using my crayons again as this image was just screaming out for some deep colours.

So if you’re interested in seeing the rest of the stamps in this stamp set, drop me a line at angelasargeant@gmail.com and I’ll get a catalogue out to you shortly.

St. Patrick’s Day

Sunday is St. Patrick’s Day so for all my Irish friends/readers, here’s a card for you:

St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland and is the person celebrated on Ireland’s national day.  Although St. Patrick wasn’t Irish himself, his work around Ireland in the 5th Century is said to have brought religion to the nation.  Intrestingly the shamrock also has a religious connetation in the history of St. Patrick as it is said that he used the shamrock to teach about the Holy Trinity.

Enough history and religion!  Back to cardmaking ;)   I made a few different versions of this card and then ended up uploading the simplest to my blog as I wanted to really highlight the funny verse and the shamrock.  I didn’t have an amusing verse in a rubber stamp to suit this card so I simply found one on the internet, typed it up and printed it in green on white cardstock.  The shamrock stamp is from Stampin’ Up!’s Occasionally stamp set which I find extremely versatile as it has 28 little stamps to suit a large amount of different occasions so I’m never stuck for an image to suit.  The whole card is done in Garden Green (cardstock & ink).  The shamrock was punched out with a 1″ circle punch after stamping and then I pressed the cardstock into my Versamark inkpad and clear embossed it several times to give it shine and make it more of an emblem.  The background is Sanded background stamp and the edges of the card were rounded to go better with the shamrock.  Hmmm, maybe I should have rounded the other corners too?

Anyway, Happy St. Paddy’s Day to all my Irish friends out there and I hope you have an awesome time celebrating!

Gremlins have got my blog

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note to say sorry for the “dated” of my blog right now.  Seems like gremlins have been having fun causing havoc.  The technical team is working on it as we speak and hopefully it’ll all be back and looking pretty again quickly.

Thank you for your patience.
