Yep, time to start those Christmas cards

Here’s one of the cards that we made at my big stamping day this weekend.

very merry xmas

I’m thinking this is going to be one of the cards that I’ll be recreating (many times!) as my Christmas card because it’s simple, festive and fun to make.  In this card I’ve used a brand new stamp set that will be released this Saturday in Stampin’ Up!’s new Spring Mini catalogue, it’s called “Tree Trimmings”.  I chose the colours of the card based on the patterned paper I wanted to use.  I just love this patterned paper so I copied the colours from it to make the rest of the card.  The Christmas ornaments where stamped in Baja Breeze, Kiwi Kiss and Riding Hood red and then cut out and mounted onto the card using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  Just a little tip: most of the time when I cut out images like this, I leave about a 1mm border so that the cutting looks neater.   The sentiment “Very Merry” is from the “Short & Sweet” stamp set, and that was stamped then punched out using the large oval punch (not to be confused with the Wide Oval punch) and then layered onto some Kiwi Kiss card punched out with the Scallop Oval Punch which is also from the new Spring Mini catalogue.

If you’d like to receive a Spring Mini, just email me.  (Australian residents only sorry).

Spring Mini Sneak Peek

It’s almost a week until the new Stampin’ Up! Spring Mini catalogue is released and I’m so excited!  Here’s a little sneak peek of three products from the new Spring Mini catalogue: the oval scallop punch, the butterfly stamp and the ‘fabulous friend’ stamp which fits perfectly into Stampin’ Up!’s large oval punch.

fabulous friend

To make this card I started with Very Vanilla cardstock in the background and I used the Spritzing Tool with a Barely Banana marker to make the splatter background.  The wavy green textured cardstock was cut wavy using Stampin’ Up!’s Cutter Kit which is great for freehand cutting.  I stamped the tree trunk in Chocolate Chip ink using a trunk from the Trendy Trees stamp set.  I really love the way this stamp set has the tree trunks and tree tops separate, it gives me so much more flexibility in my stamping.  Anyway, I just added some cute Stampin’ Up! flower buttons instead of a tree top to make a simple but sweet tree.  The butterfly stamp is new from the Spring Mini catalogue and is from a stamp set called Great Friend and that’s been stamped in Riding Hood red ink onto vanilla cardstock then I just coloured in the leaves with a blender pen and the Kiwi Kiss inkpad then added a touch of glitter.

Hope you like my card :D   If you’d like your own free copy of the new Spring Mini catalogue (and you live anywhere in Australia!), please email me and I’ll get on one in the mail to you.

Bella’s Truck

So I was sitting here watching Twilight on my Mac for something like the 500th time and I was inspired to make another one of my Twilight cards.  I enjoy making Twilight-inspired cards as they amuse me greatly :D

Anyway, it occurred to me while I was watching the movie that I had a truck stamp that would work perfectly as Bella’s Chevy.

forks or bust

So I whipped out the watercolour paper, StazOn inkpad and the truck from Stampin’ Up!’s Loads of Love stamp set and set to work in front of my computer while still watching the movie.  After stamping the image I coloured it in using watercolour crayons then cut it out.  The background is Creamy Caramel ink sponged roughly (my daughter told me she could see the circles from my sponge dauber but I wanted it to look like a bit rustic) then Garden Green for the grass and Sage Shadow for the sky.  The trees are from my absolutely most used stamps ever, Lovely as a Tree, and they were stamped in Garden Green and sponged in Certainly Celery.  I know, I’ve used something like 8 colours on this card but somehow I think it all works okay.  After the background was done I mounted the car onto it using Stampin’ Dimensionals.  The sentiment was done on my computer – I could have used some alphabet stamps but I was feeling lazy so I just typed them up then printed onto Very Vanilla cardstock and punched it out.  The sentiment was then mounted onto Close to Cocoa cardstock and it didn’t quite look right mounted onto a square piece of card so I carefully cut it out following the shape of the punch.

So I hope my card has inspired you – maybe to make your own Twilight card or just a card using a truck and your own sentiment that has some special meaning for you or the person you’re giving your card to.  This card was really out of my comfort zone so go easy on me! LOL.
