Sassy yet elegant

Yes I know, I’ve been horrifically slack in updating my blog and all I can give you as an excuse is ‘family’ and me taking time to do Christmas things rather than making cards.

So let’s get back to it! Here’s a card I just finished this minute:

Sassy Elegance.jpg

Can you tell I just bought a Cuttlebug? I’m feeling annoyed with myself as I swore black & blue that I wouldn’t ever buy one but now I’ve been talked into it and I love it. Why am I annoyed? I should have caved in earlier and just bought it… I think I secretly knew I always would – has that ever happened to you? tried to tell yourself you weren’t going to buy something then you finally did?

Anyway, here’s how I made the card. I started with a base of Certainly Celery cardstock folded in half to make a card. Then I put some Whisper White cardstock through the Cuttlebug using the ‘Textile’ embossing folder and then went over the design with some Bashful Blue ink using a sponge dauber in small circles to colour the design. The edges of the cardstock were also inked with a sponge dauber and Bashful Blue ink. This card was then adhered to the base card with SNAIL adhesive. Next I got a piece of Pale Plum cardstock and made two rows of holes on the top and bottom of the cardstock using a paper piercer and template from the Stampin’ Up! Tool Kit. At first I thought this bit would take ages but using the template meant it literally took less than a minute. I then wrapped a length of wide Celery Grosgrain ribbon around the Pale Plum cardstock and tied it into a simple knot at the side and adhered the piece on top of the embossed card. The flower I stamped is from the Sassy Stems stamp set and was stamped onto watercolour paper using black Stazon ink and then coloured with Certainly Celery, Perfect Plum and Bashful Blue markers. The stem, leaf and stamen were outlined directly with the fine end of the marker, the flower was watercoloured with the markers and an aquapainter. This piece was then adhered onto a piece of Bashful Blue cardstock and then layered onto the card with Stampin’ Dimensionals (double-sided foam tape) – unfortunately you can’t see from my photo that the centre piece sits forward. Lastly I attached two photo anchors to the top of the card, these are from the Stampin’ Up! Pewter Hodgepodge.

That’s it! If there’s anything that you’d like to ask me about this card then please feel free to email me on: angelasargeant@gmail.com. In the meantime, here’s a list to make it easy for you to see what I’ve used.

  1. Angela you have done so well not to purchase a cuttlebug until now. I have a big shot, also have sizzix and side kick, and could not live without them.
I use them at lest 5 times a week. You will have a party with your new machine. Love your cards too. Marlene

  2. LOVE this card Ange… it’s a stunner!

  3. gorgeous angela….
you will wonder how you lived without your cuttlebug for so long…enjoy!!!

  4. Angela! Welcome back, and I’m so glad that you spent time enjoying the holiday season with your family. Beautiful card; the Cuttlebug makes such fun backgrounds, and this one looks great with the floral image. LOL, I caved in just yesterday and bought a Crop-A-Dile. I swore that my little eyelet setter was all I would ever need, but the big SU eyelets look so wonderful and really need something with more force that my little hammer. Enjoy your CB; I love mine, and there is SO much you can do with it. I haven’t forgotten, I still owe you a card! :)

  5. Hi Angela – great card and by the number of responses everyone is glad to see you back!! You know you will have to update more often now. I love the colour combinations too. Happy New Year

  6. Such a pretty card! Yes, I know exactly what you mean because I only just caved in to the CB myself, but I’m excited about finally having one and using it! I’m waiting for that embossing folder to arrive on my doorstep :)
