Satin, Diamonds & Pearls mmmmmm

Today I created a card that’s more of the sort of card I would have made years ago.  I get swept up a little bit in trends and a bit scattery trying out this and that but today I wanted to go back to my personal style of using rich colours and elegant embellishements.  This is what I came up with:

Always Elegant

The card was simple to make although took me quite a while (I’m a very slow cardmaker!) because I wanted to achieve a mixture of elegance and vintage so I wasn’t just throwing things together as I might usually do.  My cardmaking starts off in different ways, sometimes I’m inspired by a stamp or new product (usually new product!) other times I have a look or feel that I’m trying to achieve (like my retro cherry card), this time I started with colours – I really wanted to use a mix of warm colours… must be the Winter weather.  The colours I’ve used in this card are Very Vanilla (cardstock), So Saffron, More Mustard, Purely Pomegranate and Chocolate Chip.  The diamond (rhinestone brad), pearls and fabric flowers are from Stampin’ Up!’s Pretties Kit (shhhh, I have 3 boxes all for myself so I don’t run out one item I’m desperate to use at any moment).  Actually, the fabric flowers come in plain old white which is just perfect for me… it means I’m not stuck using one particular colour.  Because the flowers can be coloured so easily, I was able to colour them with So Saffron and More Mustard ink to give them a vintage look.  The satin ribbon feels so plush and luxurious is in Purely Pomegranate just like the cardstock and ink for the bird, and that’s my secret really – using ribbons and inks and cardstock that match perfectly so that my cards always look coordinated.  Sigh… if only clothes, shoes, handbags and make-up could be bought the same way that Stampin’ Up! present their products.  Oh… the stamps I’ve used are also by Stampin’ Up!, they are: Always (the bird and foilage), En Francais (the script writing in the background) and Linen Background.

So that’s it, please leave me a comment if you like this card or just a comment on the way that you like to create.  Of course if you have any questions about the products or anything else you’d like to ask then drop me a line at angelasargeant@gmail.com

  3. I agree with Mad and Leonie….STUNNING, GORGEOUS…PERFECT!!! I love this style, it’s just classic. I am a little curious about the background (I’m always making people tell me exactly how they did it so I can CASE) did you just ink up bits of En Francais? Did you stamp it or the linen BG first? And the little flowers, did you just fold them in half, and what did you glue them with? Am I driving you crazy yet? LOL

  4. Thanks Ladies!

Leonie: off to bed in a minute for my pre-picking’up-kids-from-school nap. hehehehehe.

Kristie: yes, linen first, yes, glue dots. ;)

  12. this is totally gorgeous Angela! I’m all over the shop with how I create too, though lately it tends to be colour that starts the whole creative process off – simply a desire to play with a particular combination. Other times it’s a hankering to play with a particular set. And sometimes I’ll see a sketch and think “Oh that’d work great with this set!” And off I go! :-)

  13. oh my gosh, i love it!!

  14. Yummy card Ange! I finally acquired that gorgeous En Francais BG for my own collection! Might have to give this one a try. Love the So Saffron and More Mustard together!

  15. Angela, this is stunning! I haven’t played with the Always set yet but it is next on my list. That is usually my starting point – a stamp set I haven’t used yet or at least not for a while. I then often go to the colour coach for colour ispiration or the IBC for layout inspiration. Very rarely, I come up with something totally out of my own brain.

  16. oh my goodness Angela, this is simply stunning! It is really soft and elegant, love it!
